I took a stroll down memory lane yesterday. It was hard to not to cry, but lucky for me I am good at masking my emotions.
The donut shop in Corona became one of my best memories from my childhood. It was a sunny afternoon, and the bell rang so loud which signalled the departure to home. I was ecstatic as my daddy pulled up in our blue van, and I knew my day was going to get better from that moment on. As my daddy asked me about my day in Kindergarten, I told him everything. Then he turned to me with a casual smile on his face and asked me if I wanted to go to the donut shop. “Of course” I eagerly replied. We headed down the road listening to the jams of the past which consisted of Queen, Chicago, and Cher. My daddy and I sung along to every song as we memorized the lyrics during our bonding time together. When we got to the donut shop, we would order two glaze donuts and two milks. We talked until it was time to pick up my older siblings from school.
A few months ago after finishing up a few errands with my daddy, we revisited a childhood memory in a different donut shop. As I began to tell my daddy about the plans for my future, I wanted to burst out crying. I am going to miss the time we spend together at the donut shop.
You see going to the donut shop with my daddy was not just about eating donuts, but it was my quality time with my daddy. He taught me so much when we sat conversing about our lives and swapping stories.
How much do you go to your donut shop with Our Heavenly Father? We spend too much time worrying about every little detail and how it will turn out. Our society needs to sit down, stop and converse with God about their lives. He longs for your company at the donut shop. He sits in the brown table with two glazed donuts and two milks waiting to hear about you. He wants to tell you that He loves you, but you make up excuses of being too busy or lost in your own world. Please stop whatever you are doing today and make time for God.
Let’s Pray!
Dear Heavenly Father,
I pray that you will help me to meet You at the donut shop more often than I do now. I pray that I can come to you about everything that is going on in my life. You love me so much! Help me not to get distracted by the world.
In Jesus Name,
Amen!
Wow Avonlea, this was really powerful! I love the allegory that you turned this into...so beautiful and compelling at the same time! You really put it into perspective :)
